     Now is a good time to make sure that your house numbers are visible from the roadway.  If your house is not numbered, or the numbers are not clearly visible, please install reflective numbers at least 6" in height.  This will help to ensure that emergency personnel will locate you as quickly as possible in the event that you need assistance.

those who wait till the last second often find themselves paying for "premium parking"
spaces, these include, no parking any time, no parking here to corner, handicapped parking only...$30-$200 for five minutes doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

0920 - medcu 12 run to 87 Central Ave. Patient transported to fireboat without incident.
1100 - met ferry.
1230 - met ferry.
1245 - vehicle parked in Welch St. lot for multiple days without moving.  Summons written last week for it.  Was able to make contact with the neighbor of the registered owner and they were in process of having towed out of the lot and onto their property.  Vehicle didn't start.  Island tag in vehicle, owner just forgot to place it on vehicle.
1430 - met ferry.
1530 - met ferry and patrolled island.
1630 - traffic detail on Brackett Ave.  8 vehicles passed, all under speed limit.
1750 - met ferry.
1930 - met ferry.
2015 - patrolled island and met 2030 ferry.

0845 - responded with Officer Reagan and K9 Trixie to the Peaks Elementary School for a show and tell/demonstration with the students.  Officer Reagan answered questions for the students and explained the duties of a police dog.  The kids loved it.  There are a couple of pics uploaded on the Portland Police Facebook page.

1305 - made note of silver Chevy pick-up, license plate commercial 718-979 and red Dodge Dakota pick-up with license plate Maine 3774UD.  Both vehicles parked in Welch St. lot.  Vehicles were moved from prior location in lot.  72 hour parking limit initiated.

1750 - picked up FD and CMP for class on island about electrical/down wire safety class.

It has come to our attention that there have been complaints of "known" cars speeding to meet the ferry. I realize folks reluctance to confront a neighbor, but if you'd like us to gently remind them of the speed limit and your concerns before someone is hurt or they are ticketed by a radar detail, please feel free to let us know who they are and we will speak with them. Prevention goes hand in hand with enforcement.

10 island residents received parking tickets for not removing their vehicles from the public parking lot 72 hours after our last storm.  Please remove your car from the lot so that DPWcan properly clear the lot.

0930 - hydrant shoveling with FD personnel.
1025 - assisted AAA with info on a disabled vehicle on Adams Street.
1035 - continued hydrant shoveling.
1345 - patrolled island and met 1430 ferry.
1530 - met ferry.
1645 - met ferry and patrolled island.
1750 - met ferry.
1930 - met ferry.
2120 - checked DPW property and met 2130 ferry.


***Friendly reminder, last night, I found a few cars parked in the Welch St. lot unlocked.  Nothing valuable in sight, but the one time you forget to take your valuables out, will be the time when someone steals them.  Try to remember to lock your vehicle.

Remember to check your stove and furnace vents-someone this morning was overheard saying their wood stove wouldn't start and stay burning-then they discovered the vent was blocked by snow..We also have a few issues with pipes freezing. Remember to keep your thermostats clear of hanging clothes so that the room air can be truly read by the thermostat.

Remember to factor in the wind chill when you prepare to go out for the day. With the blowing and drifting snow it's important to keep all the vents clear on your home- an annual cleaning/check on chimneys and stove pipes is a very good idea as well.
