It cannot be emphasized enough: place readily visible numbers on your house so that we can find you in the event of an emergency--if you rent out a cottage it is imperative that the renter know the street and house number they are calling from-post the info at the entrance/exit as well as by the phone. We have had problems (as recently as last week with a fire call) when an emergency occurs and people don't know where they are on the Island. "Near the water" does not help at all.

The warmer weather is awakening the ticks, and it's time to pay attention.  Dogs and cats need their protection, and so do you and your children.  Tick-borne diseases, including Lyme, are on the rise in the Northeast, including Maine, and yes, on our island.  Among suggestions of things you can do to avoid a tick bite are:  tuck long pants into socks when in the woods and check yourself and your family members daily for ticks.  The Health Center has bookmarks with tick facts including tick identification, and tick removal.  Stop by and pick one up.
