***Some smoke detectors rely on just battery power, these types need to have the batteries changed more often that the AC/battery type. Just because the detector is new and came with a "new battery" doesn't mean its a charged battery. Be prepared to replace it if necessary.
***Please don't mess with the beavers that live on the island. As you can see from the video they will charge you if scared. Yon can try to climb up a tree to escape, but he'll just call his friends and chop it down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF1-DLAzwLM

***Three common themes to the attempted burglaries that we had today were; the houses were vacant, dark yards and no inside lights.
If you plan to be away, a good idea would be to have one of our island electricians install an outside motion detector light in the dark areas of your yard. Most of the time one quality motion sensing light can cover a large area. http://www.rabweb.com/productLines.php?majorGroup=STL
I addition to that, a timer placed on a lamp inside of the home will help deter unwanted thieves. Some examples of these can be found at http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/catalog/servlet/Search?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&keyword=light%20timers&Ns=None&Ntpr=1&Ntpc=1&selectedCatgry=SEARCH+ALL and

***Health Tip

Female Heart Attack Symptoms:

  1. Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
  2. Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  3. Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
  4. Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
  5. As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.

***Some women mistakenly think only crushing chest pain is a symptom of a heart attack and, therefore, delay seeking medical care.
If you have any of these signs, don’t wait more than five minutes before calling for help. Call 9-1-1 and get to a hospital right away.
