1330 assist PFD with propane leak on Seashore Ave.  A 250 lb propane tank that had recently been filled,sprung a leak due to rust on the bottom.  The tank had to be watched until all the fuel had leaked out.

2045 called to the inn to remove an unruly guest.  The guest, suffering from mental illness, was escorted off the property.

2115 met ferry

Welch St resident called to report a fight in front of his home.  Upon arrival I found five members of a wedding party who, no doubt had just been involved in a fight.  The aggressors, two brothers were escorted away by other wedding guests.

2330 met ferry

0040 called to a Prince Ave home to find one of the brothers involved in a fight earlier, being asked to leave by the occupants.  After a brief period the subject was convinced that leaving was in fact his best option (yes, alcohol was involved.... lots of alcohol).

If you are a propane user have your supplier inspect your tank for damage or rust.  A brief look could save you a lot of grief at an inconvenient time.

They were dropping friends off at boat and heading back to their friend's home (quiet and orderly group).

2345- met ferry-checked bars-large,very loud wedding party arrived-reminded that this is a community and they need to be aware of the residents in the area.

0030- American Legion on Welch St-bartender asked that a 10-95 man be removed-he was FI'd and left the Island on a water taxi.

 

 

Even though it seems like summer is (almost) over we still encourage you to document your bikes and lock them up. We are still having difficulty locating house numbers on many houses. The numbers need to be readily visible from the road. Even if you don't have an emergency at your home, your house number, through the process of elimination-may be the one that helps us find the house in dire need of emergency services.

What is Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT)?

• It is the most common type of inherited peripheral neuropathy that results in a progressing loss of muscle tissue and touch sensation in the arms and legs
• It can vary greatly in severity, even within the same family
• It affects nearly 2.6 million people worldwide, including several men and women here in Maine
• There is no known cure, although physical therapy, occupational therapy, and moderate physical activity is beneficial
• Charcot-Marie-Tooth is named after three physicians who were the first to describe it back in 1886

City of Portland to Offer Seven Flu Vaccine Clinics This Fall

PORTLAND, Maine -- The City of Portland, Health and Human Services Department’s Public Health Division will be holding seven seasonal flu vaccination clinics starting October 8, 2014. The full clinic schedule is listed below and available online here. Seasonal flu vaccine will be available for $15, or at no cost for individuals with a Medicare Part B card and supplemental insurance (if applicable) The City also accepts private insurance.

Pneumococcal pneumonia vaccine will be covered by Medicare or available for $87. Tetanus/Pertussis vaccine (TdAP) will be offered for $50. The clinics are open to adults, eighteen and older.

The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated annually. This year the City will be supplying quadrivalent vaccine at all the clinics. This vaccine protects against four strains of influenza (one more strain than last year’s vaccine). Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes death. Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently. Even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and spread it to others. Vaccinations reduce health care costs by limiting expensive therapies and unnecessary hospitalizations and decrease the spread of disease in the home, workplace, and community. Getting the flu shot is something you can do for your health and for the health of others.

It should be noted that this year’s vaccination for the seasonal flu is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. Groups at especially high risk of either contracting seasonal influenza and/or developing its complications include:

§ People People over age 50;
§ People with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, or immune system problems;
§ Pregnant women;
§ People in long-term care or institutional settings;
§ Health care workers;
§ Caregivers and household contacts of those at high risk; and
§ Young children aged 6 months and up.

Peaks Island is inundated with visitors during the summer. We still have unattended bicycles taken rather regularly-most times they are recovered, but not always- a golf cart and a van were stolen late Tuesday night. The golf cart was recovered a with damage-the van was recovered undamaged. Please remember to put locks on your bikes and keep the keys to your cars and golf carts with you, not in the vehicle. Save yourself the difficulty and keep your belongings safe.
