It cannot be emphasized enough: place readily visible numbers on your house so that we can find you in the event of an emergency--if you rent out a cottage it is imperative that the renter know the street and house number they are calling from-post the info at the entrance/exit as well as by the phone. We have had problems (as recently as last week with a fire call) when an emergency occurs and people don't know where they are on the Island. "Near the water" does not help at all.

Peaks Island Health Center

87 Central Ave.  P.O. Box 52

 Hours:          Monday, Wednesday and Friday

8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Kitty Gilbert, Family Nurse Practitioner, provides care for all ages.

Please call either 766-2929 or 874-2466 for an appointment.

Please note the change in schedule to three days a week.   (Beginning May 4th)

This change will remain in effect throughout the year.  We are very grateful to Maine Medical Partners and Portland Family Medicine for extending the clinic hours on Peaks.

The warmer weather is awakening the ticks, and it's time to pay attention.  Dogs and cats need their protection, and so do you and your children.  Tick-borne diseases, including Lyme, are on the rise in the Northeast, including Maine, and yes, on our island.  Among suggestions of things you can do to avoid a tick bite are:  tuck long pants into socks when in the woods and check yourself and your family members daily for ticks.  The Health Center has bookmarks with tick facts including tick identification, and tick removal.  Stop by and pick one up.

commuters may want to park their cars down front a few minutes before the ferry arrives
those who wait till the last second often find themselves paying for "premium parking"
spaces, these include, no parking any time, no parking here to corner, handicapped parking only...$30-$200 for five minutes doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

Be aware that ice dams are quickly becoming a problem with the warmer temperatures making irregular appearances. Please be sure to check your home and those in your neighborhood. For the folks with seasonal homes it could save a lot of aggravation and work if an issue is spotted in time and they are notified.
