Many parents and children were swimming off the end of the dock on Welch St
all day due to extreme heat and humid weather conditions. I spoke with multiple
groups to remind them to not jump in the water when the ferry was arriving--the
engines of the Machigonne (and all CBL boats) create a large wash that will
likely pull you into the engines--no one wants to see that happen. If you or
your guests go down front for a refreshing swim please remember to get out of
the water when the boats pass House Island, don't climb on the DOT transfer
bridge or pylons to jump off and the opportunity to swim there will still be an
option. In past years when safety rules were not followed the dock was shut down
to all foot traffic and swimming was prohibited.
