Safety tip.

Halloween is just around the corner so this is a reminder to prepare in advance. This tip is directed toward the homeowners that will be hosting many trick or treaters, so I’m going to break this down for you "old school."

The ultimatum "trick or treat" given by children who call on houses to solicit gifts at Halloween alone should be the first clue.

Trick or Treat does not mean a "gift in exchange for a prayer for the dead", anymore. It means give me a treat or I'll be back with a few friends with a little trick of my own. Now for those of you who like to hand out popcorn balls, sticky candy apples or fruit; you've moved yourself to the top of the "Will visit later list" The "my porch light is off so don't come here " homes are also on the fast track to the list.

So in short if you provide a reasonable treat of sugar substance you should be ok. If you plan on being gone or hiding out just leave a bowl of approved goodies on the steps. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Safety tip.

One thing learned from the recent earth quake was how quickly the 911 system was overwhelmed. Within minutes all available 911 emergency lines were filled and backed up. This can be very dangerous to those with real emergencies! Within minutes TV and radio stations had updates about the quake. We need to remember that 911 is not an information hotline or gossip hub. Chances are pretty good that if you heard a noise from your house that sounded like it ejected your furnace through the roof, your not the only one... So check the furnace if its still there relax and watch the news, if its gone and you can see the sky from the basement call 911.

0700-Officer Daniel Rose on duty for 24 hours

0800-2345 Met boat through out the day, with routine patrol of the island.

0900-House details

Responded to City Point Landing for the report of an unknown white substance discharging from the storm drain. May be related to the Water District testing.

Medical transport to Maine Medical Center for a possible broken leg.

Found purse returned to out of state owner.

A delayed response to this injury can be very dangerous to your health, resulting in possible increased pain ,internal bleeding and clotting, permanent disfigurement from healing wrong and at the very least a delayed recovery period.

0100- checked residence on Island ave after she reported suspicious activity around her house

0800 - dropped off spare cruiser and picked up island cruiser and met ferry.

0920 - drove through Brackett Ave and met 0945 ferry.

1100 - met ferry.

1215 - drove around island and met 1230 ferry.

1400 - responded to Lions Club with FD to check propane tank with leak.

1430 - met ferry.

1515 - responded to community garden with FD to assist in filling up water tank.

1445 - met ferry.

1730 - drove through Central Ave. and met 1750 ferry.

1900 - drove around perimeter of island.

1930 - met ferry.

2000 - drove around perimeter of island.

1200- checked the ferry- patrolled the back side of the island

1400- checked the ferry,checked the community center

1500- checked the ferry gave special attention to a subject from in town (the bottom of Welch St..)

1600- checked the ferry, patrolled

1700- checked the ferry

1800- checked the lions club, patrolled

1900 checked the ferry

2000- checked the ferry, checked on the subject standing the bottom of Welch St..

2100- checked the ferry,

2200- checked the ferry, helped a subject the bottom of Welch St. get on the ferry

2300- checked the ferry, assisted a subject arriving late to make contact with inn employee to check in.

in the wind storm a canopy flipped over on greenwood..

there are two things of note

1 one person cannot flip it rightside up alone..

2 it cannot be folded while upside down!! dont try this at home folks

i did manage to get the damaged canopy back onto the deck
